You can renew your membership up to one year before it expires. Any time left on your current membership will be added to your renewal.
All you have to do is fill out an application, pay the service fee and the fee for background checks and, in some cases, attend a mandatory interview at an enrollment center of your choice.
The program is a shared initiative of the Canada Border Services Agency and the United States Customs & Border Protection. The goal is to get low risk passengers traveling between Canada and the USA across the border faster with minimal inspections and wait times. It’s the best way to expedite your entry into Canada or the United States whether you’re traveling by land, air or sea.
To qualify for membership, you must satisfy the US and Canadian government agencies that you do not pose a threat to national security in either country. This process can take the government up to 6 months. You must fill out a lengthy application form and show a 5 year address and work history – you do not need to be in work to apply, but you must tell the government what you have been doing for the last 5 years. When your application is received it is circulated among key government agencies in Canada and the US to determine whether you have committed any acts or offences that would affect your low risk status. Your application is checked with law enforcement, immigration, customs, homeland security, the department of motor vehicles and several more.
If you’re a U.S. or Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, you can use the global lanes at most U.S. airports when you return from an international trip or when you arrive from Canada. You don’t need to sign up for the program – it’s automatic with your NEXUS membership.
Equally, when you depart from any U.S. airport you can use the prescreen lane to expedite your way through security and you don’t have to take off your shoes, belt and jacket or remove anything from your bags. You must make sure that when you booked your ticket, you added in your membership Pass ID.

You must be a US or Canadian citizen or a legal permanent resident with a machine readable PR card.
All you have to do with is follow these steps:
Fill out our application form – one per applicant;
Pay the service fee (USD 139.99) for the error checks and application processing;
We check your submission and notify you of any missing information within 48 hours;
When we have your personal data in order, we pay the background and security check fee ($50 adults only) using the card listed on your application;
As a part of our service all of our customers receive a free application submission after we have thoroughly prepared and checked your application form.
Monitor your application status by using the information in the Traveler Profile – you will receive this as soon as we submit your data for security checks;
Attend an interview – it now takes up to 6 months to reach the interview stage – please be patient, this is out of our control!
Get your membership card within 10-14 days after a successful interview;
