THE FASTEST WAY
THROUGH LONG LINES

Apply For NEXUS Card is not affiliated with the Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) or the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

HOW TO RENEW YOUR NEXUS CARD

You can renew your  membership up to one year before it expires. Any time left on your current NEXUS card is added to your renewal.

First, just fill out the NEXUS form. Next, pay the service fee ($154.99) and the fee for background checks ($120). Finally, attend a mandatory interview at an enrollment center of your choice. Not all renewal applicants will be called for an interview. You are unlikely to be called if your data is the same since joining.

NEXUS is a joint project of the Canada Border Services Agency and the United States Customs & Border Protection. The goal is to get low-risk travelers across the border faster. This means with minimal inspections and wait times. It’s the best way to fast-track your entry into Canada or the United States. You can use it when you travel by land, air or sea.

What Is a Low Risk Traveler?

A low-risk traveler poses no threats to the Canadian and U.S. governments. NEXUS card evaluates each applicant for their low-risk status. This process can take up to 8 months. You must fill out a lengthy application form. The form requires your 5-year address and work history. You don’t need to be working to apply, but you must tell the government what you have been doing for the last 5 years.

Your application is checked by government agencies in Canada and the US. They’re looking for any violations that would affect your low-risk status.

When all of the checks are cleared, you must book an interview at an enrollment center. It lasts for 30 minutes. The interviewing officer will take your fingerprints and a photo. Some centers offer iris scans so that you can use your card at the airport.

Trusted Travel Programs

If you’re a NEXUS cardmember, you can use the Global Entry lanes at most US airports.  This allows you to fast-track your entry through the US immigration hall. All you need is your NEXUS card and a valid passport. It’s important that you enrolled for NEXUS at one of the centers that offer iris scanning. Such centers are usually located at Canadian airports.

Equally, when you depart from any US airport you can use the TSA prescreen lane to expedite your way through security. You don’t have to take off your shoes, belt, and jacket or remove anything from your bags. However, you must make sure that when you book your ticket, you add in your membership number known as a PASSID.

If you want to cross the Mexican border, you can do so using your NEXUS card. But, you must make sure that the car you are traveling in has been registered onto the SENTRI program.
